Explore helpful guidance on supporting your child’s success, understanding financial assistance, and making informed decisions about course selection for their Dual Credit journey.

Supporting Your Child’s Success
Active parental engagement can significantly enhance a student’s academic performance. Here are some ways to support your child:
- Stay Informed: Familiarize yourself with the Dual Credit program’s policies, procedures, and expectations. This knowledge enables you to guide your child effectively.
- Maintain Open Communication: Regularly discuss your child’s academic progress, challenges, and achievements.Encourage them to share their experiences and seek help when needed.
- Utilize Academic Resources: Encourage your child to connect with Academic Coaches for Dual Credit (ACDCs) available at their high school. These coaches assist with course selection, academic advising, and college transition support.
Understanding Financial Assistance and Course Selection
Navigating financial assistance options and selecting appropriate courses are vital components of the Dual Credit experience.
Financial Assistance
The Texarkana College Foundation has partnered with our area high schools to provide financial assistance for dual credit classes. Talk to your high school counselor to learn about potential funding opportunities. Additionally, dual credit students may be eligible for the Financial Aid for Swift Transfer (FAST) funding program. This program may cover tuition, fees, and related expenses for eligible students. Consult with your child’s high school counselor to determine eligibility and application procedures.
Course Selection
Careful course selection ensures that credits earned will transfer to future college programs. Work closely with your child’s high school counselor and ACDC to choose courses that align with their academic and career goals. Be aware that while many academic courses transfer seamlessly, some workforce courses may not transfer to four-year institutions. Confirm transferability with prospective colleges or universities below.
Communication with Texarkana College
Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Texarkana College cannot disclose certain student information to parents without written consent. By signing the Dual Credit Registration Contract, students authorize the exchange of information between the college and parents or legal guardians. This consent remains in effect until the student provides written notice to change it.
