Active parental engagement can significantly enhance a student’s academic performance. Here are some ways to support your child:​

• Stay Informed: Familiarize yourself with the Dual Credit program’s policies, procedures, and expectations. This knowledge enables you to guide your child effectively.​
• Maintain Open Communication: Regularly discuss your child’s academic progress, challenges, and achievements.Encourage them to share their experiences and seek help when needed.​
• Utilize Academic Resources: Encourage your child to connect with Academic Coaches for Dual Credit (ACDCs) available at their high school. These coaches assist with course selection, academic advising, and college transition support.

The TC Promise makes it possible for eligible students to earn Dual Credit while they’re still in high school at no tuition cost. Beyond high school, students who complete 15 or more Texarkana College Dual Credit hours automatically qualify for the TC Promise Scholarship and receive an additional $1,000 in scholarships while continuing their education at Texarkana College.

Course Selection

Careful course selection ensures that credits earned will transfer to future college programs. Work closely with your child’s high school counselor and ACDC to choose courses that align with their academic and career goals. Be aware that while many academic courses transfer seamlessly, some workforce courses may not transfer to four-year institutions. Confirm transferability with prospective colleges or universities below.

Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Texarkana College cannot disclose certain student information to parents without written consent. By signing the Dual Credit Registration Contract, students authorize the exchange of information between the college and parents or legal guardians. This consent remains in effect until the student provides written notice to change it.
